⁠A Dockerized Spring Boot Student Management REST API

⁠Abstract

This module presents the development and containerization of a Spring Boot–based Student Management REST API using Docker. The API is designed to perform fundamental CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations on student data, serving as a backend service for frontend applications such as Angular. By encapsulating the Spring Boot application within a Docker container, the system achieves platform independence, consistent runtime behavior, and simplified deployment. The Dockerized approach eliminates environment-specific configuration issues and enables rapid setup across development, testing, and production environments. This demonstration highlights best practices in RESTful API design, backend containerization, and service portability, making it a practical and beginner-friendly reference for students and developers learning modern backend development workflows.

⁠Acknowledgements

This demo API was developed for educational and demonstration purposes. The student data used in the application is sample data created locally within the database and does not represent real individuals. The project is intended to support learning in REST API development, Docker containerization, and frontend–backend integration using modern web technologies.

⁠Steps to Launch the API

Open your terminal/command prompt.

⁠1. Pull the Docker Image

docker pull zhamri/demo-api:latest

⁠2. Run the API Container

docker run -d -p 8080:8080 zhamri/demo-api:latest

⁠3. Verify the API

Open your web browser. Example: Google Chrome, Safari, etc

http://localhost:8080/api/students

⁠4. Test the API

http://localhost:8080/swagger-ui/index.html

⁠5. Stop the API

docker stop <container_id>
