Bakta is a bacterial genome annotation tool designed for precision and efficiency in sequence analysis. Upon initialization, Bakta automatically downloads and sets up a light version of its database, which it updates at each run to ensure it is always using the latest version of data for annotation purposes. This light database version enables Bakta to perform rapid, focused analysis of bacterial genes and genetic elements.
For a more comprehensive annotation, it is recommended to use Bakta alongside PROKKA and merge the results with AGAT. This approach provides an enhanced and detailed annotation by integrating additional elements detected by PROKKA and consolidating them into a single file with AGAT.
A more detailed pipeline that includes this methodology for thorough bacterial genome annotation can be found in the WGS-Analysis-VariantCalling repository, where each stage is outlined for achieving a robust genome annotation.
