conroy3644/node-template repository overview

This image is created from an Ubuntu base image with an ssh server. This image is intended for use with https://hub.docker.com/r/conroy3644/chef-server⁠ and https://hub.docker.com/r/conroy3644/chef-workstation⁠ to function as a Chef node.

⁠Usage

run it and expose ssh port 22

• docker run -p 22:22 -d --name node1 conroy3644/node1

add your chef server ip address and host name to /etc/hosts

• docker exec -it node1 bash
• vim /etc/hosts
• add server IP and host name (host name should match container ID of server)
• repeat above steps on the chef workstation /etc/hosts, except add the node hostname and IP address

bootstrap the node

• from server CLI, run this command to boostrap to the "test" user (created in image): knife bootstrap node-container-id --ssh-user test --ssh-password test --node-name node1 --sudo --use-sudo-password -P test
• run the following command to verify node bootstrap: knife node list
